About Teddy
Personality: Affectionate, Brave, Curious, Friendly, Funny, Gentle, Loves
Teddy, our 25 pound 2 year old French Bulldog, says he "understands" the concept of personal space. He just doesn't think it's as important as people say it is. Why sit alone if you can sit in the exact same place as someone else? Now that Teddy doesn't snort as loud as he used to, at least the space you share with him will be peaceful.
Teddy was found abandoned in the yard of a shelter. We were asked to help because, well, Teddy is a disaster. Bred by someone very unethical, Teddy had virtually no nostrils to speak of and his soft palate was too long. The very act of trying to breathe was tricky. Despite this, Teddy was so charming and friendly, we knew he deserved a chance.
We took Teddy in and gave him a nose job. We also shortened his palate so he didn't choke on it. However, there is a lot we can't do for our Teddy. His trachea is so narrow that it belongs in a kitten. His backbone is misshapen, his back legs are bowed, and one of his ears is stenotic and prone to infections. Again, his breeder should be arrested. But, Teddy doesn't know any of this and is about as happy a dog as we've ever met.
Crate and potty trained, polite in the house, and quiet (except for the snoring), Teddy is an easy keeper. That is, if you don't mind his constant need to snuggle. Teddy is also great on a leash and is happy to meet any person, cat, or other dog he sees. Friendly with both large and small dogs in the house, we think Teddy could live with just about anyone. He's so gentle, even small kids would be okay.
Teddy is heartworm negative and current on his flea and heartworm preventatives. His adopter should be prepared to make accommodations for his brachycephalic airway syndrome and his curved spine. He's likely to have arthritis in the future.
Why sit by yourself if you could sit next to an adorable mess. Teddy doesn't let his body slow him down, so it shouldn't stop you from applying to adopt!
